There’s been no love lost between the Predators and the Penguins in this Stanley Cup Final. Late in the first period of Thursday’s Game 5, Pittsburgh star center Sidney Crosby took down P.K. Subban, holding the Nashville defenseman to the ice and repeatedly mashing his head to the ground.
Both players received matching penalties — two minutes for holding — and Predators fans went into a rage when the Penguins took advantage with an Evgeni Malkin goal right before the end of the first period.
This feud has been building up all series. After Game 3, Subban said that Crosby confronted him, telling the the Predators star he has bad breath. Crosby later said Subban made the whole thing up, so who knows.
In Game 2, Subban also got into a skirmish with Penguins center Evgeni Malkin.
According to NBC commentator Mike Milbury, Subban’s actions have apparently been enough this series that he deserved to get mauled by Crosby.
There’s clearly plenty of bad blood here. Hopefully this series makes it to seven games.
