Jeremy Roenick picked a bad night to question Sidney Crosby’s work ethic

Former NHL All-Star Jeremy Roenick has a knack for saying things that have a way of coming back to haunt him. On Monday night, he may have set a new record courtesy of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

During the second-period intermission of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Pittsburgh, Roenick offered a scathing criticism of Crosby’s work ethic. The criticism was arguably somewhat fair given Crosby’s Penguins were trailing the Tampa Bay Lightning in the series after dropping the first game at home, but Crosby was still putting up more shots than most of his teammates.

The reaction to that comment did not go over particularly well with the masses.

Crosby very likely was unaware of the comments, but he sure came through in a big way to silence that criticism from Roenick. Crosby scored the game-winning goal to even the series at one game apiece with a one-timer off a pass just 40 seconds into the overtime session. It was the first postseason overtime goal of Crosby’s career, and it could not have come at a better time.

Crosby was named the first star of the game. Drouin was awarded the third star of the game in the losing effort. Advantage on this night? Crosby.
