The Philadelphia Flyers made a bold move Monday, unveiling new mascot Gritty to much derision. Well, the team hosted the Boston Bruins in preseason action Monday night, and Gritty got to make his on-ice debut. Sadly, it didn’t go so well for him:

And that wasn’t the only shot of a Gritty fall:

Gritty also shot someone in the back with a t-shirt cannon:

Well, hey, as viewers of American Vandal‘s second season know, there are definitely worse things that can come out of a t-shirt cannon. But none of this will top the setting of Gritty’s earlier entrance to Ginuwine’s “Pony”:

There was also a threat against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins’ mascot:

Oh, and even after the pratfalls and after the Flyers falling behind 2-0, there was Gritty dancing:

Look, Gritty may not be the mascot we need, but he’s definitely the mascot we deserve.
