Evander Kane was arrested on Friday in Buffalo, turning himself into police. According to WGRZ and the Buffalo News, the Buffalo Sabres forward was charged with four separate counts of non-criminal harassment and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass.
The incident appeared to be connected to allegations from nearly a month ago, where Kane was accused of threatening and making derogatory comments to a woman at a Buffalo bar. Another woman accused Kane of grabbing her by the arm and trying to force her out of the bar. He was previously investigated for sexual assault in March, but charges were never laid.
Upon turning himself in, Kane was handcuffed in downtown Buffalo.
While Kane hasn’t been found guilty of anything, the continuing allegations are damning. He’s been accused of multiple crimes and his name continually pops up in the news for the wrong reasons. Kane’s an immensely talented hockey player, but all of these allegations are overshadowing whatever he’s capable of doing on the ice. Again, he’s innocent until proven guilty, but the arrest is concerning to say the least.
Per TMZ, Kane denies the allegations and intends to fight the charges.
It remains to be seen what the Sabres organization or NHL will do with Kane. If he’s convicted a suspension would be inevitable. For now, it’s a waiting game.
