This marks the 100th year of Boston Bruins hockey, but the storied NHL franchise has never had a season like this one.
The Bruins knocked off the New Jersey Devils, 2-1, Saturday night, marking their 62nd victory of the season. That ties an NHL record set by the Detroit Red Wings in 1995-96 and equaled by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018-19.
With three regular season games remaining, the Bruins seem all but certain to set the record. Boston has games left against the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens.
The Bruins got two goals from Pavel Zacha in the first five minutes of Saturday’s game and hung on for the victory.
Records are nice, especially one as prestigious as the all-time wins mark, but the Bruins (62-12-5) are undoubtedly already turning their focus to the postseason. They were eliminated in the first round of the NHL Playoffs last year despite 51 regular season wins. Those kinds of losses stay with a team.
The NHL world offered mostly congratulations for the Bruins Saturday, although some fans from other teams took time to predict another first-round exit for Boston.
