It looks like former No.2 overall pick Zach Wilson will likely not be with the New York Jets following the 2022-23 NFL season. His mother seems to believe that the “toxic” Jets fanbase is part of the reason things have not worked out.
A direct message from Wilson’s mom leaked on social media, showing an interaction between her and a Jets fan. The fan messaged Wilson’s mom on Sunday to let her know exactly what they thought about her son’s performance.
“Hope you’re having a good day Lisa. Just really wanted to say sorry about the fan behavior and what not it’s uncalled for. I wish u and Zach the best of luck. But one last thing, Zach has single handedly caused me the most pain and agony out of any player in sports history. Thank god he’s benched. Have a good day and god bless,” said the fan in their message to Lisa Wilson in an image tweeted out by Barstool Sports.
Wilson then responded by saying that her son’s lack of success is due to the Jets’ “toxic fanbase.”
“It’s not possible for anyone to be successful here. Your fan base is toxic. Merry Christmas,” Wilson replied.
It is certainly a bad look for a fan to be messaging a player’s mom to blast him on Christmas. That being said, it is very clearly Zach Wilson’s inconsistency that will spell the end of his tenure in New York and not the fanbase’s response to his poor performance.
