Washington Commanders head coach Ron Riveria announced that backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke will be starting this weekend against the Houston Texans.
The backup led his team to an upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night sending them to their first loss of the season.
Since becoming the starting quarterback, Heinicke has taken the team to a 3-1 record and starter Carson Wentz finds himself once again on the verge of maybe losing his starting position.
Wentz as many may recall, was the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles before he lost his job to current Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Riveria says that if Wentz is feeling better, he may back up Heinicke Sunday but he won’t be starting. Heinicke has thrown for 840 yards so far and is hitting 62 percent of his passes, so you can see why Wentz’s starting job may be in jeopardy.
Wentz has thrown for less than 1500 this season and 10 touchdowns. The Commanders is Wentz’s third team he has played for in his career and each time, he has been replaced at some point.
Last year, after the Indianapolis Colts missed the playoffs, they too decided to part ways with Wentz and in the off-season signed former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
It appears that once again Wentz finds himself in the awkward position of maybe losing his starting job.
