Former Alabama running back and Washington Commanders’ rookie Brian Robinson Jr. was reportedly been shot multiple times during an attempted robbery.
According to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, the injuries Robinson suffered are thankfully non-life-threatening.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also added that the robbery stemmed from an attempted carjacking by the perpetrator.
Robinson was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft after spending five years at Alabama.
Playing in mostly a reserve role at the beginning of his college career, Robinson had a breakout season in 2021, rushing for 1,343 yards on 261 carries for 16 total TDs.
Robinson’s most memorable performance came against the Cincinnati Bearcats during the 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinals, rushing for 201 yards — a school record for a bowl game and was named the MVP of the Cotton Bowl.
The expectation for the Commanders’ coaching staff was that Robinson would be the feature back this season — competing for the starting spot against Antonio Gibson who has a case of fumblitis, coughing up the ball six times last season.
Washington posted a statement Sunday night stating that they were made aware what was going on, said that Robinson sustained non-life-threatening injuries and asked for the public to respect Brian’s privacy.
Although the nature of his injuries remains unclear, thoughts and prayers go out to Robinson and wish him a speedy recovery.
