The Minnesota Vikings finally cut ties with long-tenured head coach Mike Zimmer following a disappointing 8-9 season for the team, and it appears that their head coaching search could be coming to a conclusion tomorrow.
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh will visit in person for an interview for the first time after an interview over the weekend on Zoom, and he reportedly plans to sign with the team.
The rumors of Harbaugh returning to the NFL became more and more of a reality after he made the decision to miss out on Michigan’s national signing day to go to an in-person interview with the Vikings tomorrow.
Rumors of Harbaugh going to the Miami Dolphins came to an end after owner Stephen Ross said that he was “not going to be the one to take Harbaugh away from Michigan”. It is worth noting that Ross is a Michigan booster, so it makes sense that he would want Harbaugh to stay at Michigan.
The acquisition of Harbaugh would be a huge get for the Vikings. The Vikings, who are no doubt talented, seemed to fall apart at the end of games last season. But they did have a pair of wins against playoff teams, beating the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Harbaugh had an impressive tenure in the NFL as a head coach from 2011-14 with the San Francisco 49ers. He went49-22-1 (including the playoffs), and reached the NFC championship game three times and the Super Bowl once (in 2012). If he does sign on with the Vikings, we’ll see if he can match that success there.
