The Denver Broncos will look entirely different after parting ways with former head coach Vic Fangio at the end of last season, opting to bring in former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in his place.
Fangio did not experience the type of success that was expected of him during his time with the Broncos, totaling a 19-30 record as head coach in three seasons with the organization.
Following his removal as head coach, he has been out of the limelight, opting not to pursue an opportunity for a potential coordinator position in the NFL, but he could be open to it in the future.
He discussed the possibility of returning to the NFL in the future on Friday and said that he may be interested in a position down the road if it is the right fit for him.
“We’ll see where things stand and develop and what’s available to see if I’m a good match for somebody, but it’s definitely a possibility, probably as a coordinator,” Fangio told Vikings beat writer Chris Tomasson.
While Fangio’s time as a head coach was unsuccessful and short-lived, he has always been praised for his mind on the defensive side of the ball, helping the Broncos record a top-1o defense in terms of total points allowed in two of the three seasons he was head coach of the organization.
He clearly has a vast amount of experience as a defensive coordinator, serving in that role on a number of teams during his time in the NFL which dates all the way back to 1995.
At 63 years of age, many would expect that he may want to call it quits soon, but his comments seem to indicate that he has plenty of gas left in the tank at the NFL level.
