For fans and players alike, the Madden video game series has been a staple for well over three decades. Over the years, it’s become increasingly more realistic. It’s so realistic that Tyreek Hill, one of the NFL’s best receivers, uses Madden for a critical part of preparing.

Hill explained in detail how he uses Madden, the night before a game. He even went over what he’ll do ahead of Saturday’s preseason game between Hill’s Miami Dolphins and the Houston Texans.

“I feel like Madden has a good tell of how good players are. So I just play Madden the night before. And I go look at all their ratings. So, let’s say, for instance, they have Steve Nelson and Derek Stingley, two phenomenal players, by the way. I just go get on Madden, I go to the EA rosters, and I scroll down to see what their awareness is, what their speed is and their strength. That’s how I get a good tell on them.”

This drew mixed reactions from the NFL world, though the general consensus was that this probably won’t work for everyone.

This wouldn’t be a recommended way for most players to scout the opposition ahead of a game. But Hill has been one of the NFL’s best, most successful receivers for nearly a decade. So in his case, there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
