This week, the Miami Dolphins signed starting right tackle Austin Jackson to a three-year contract extension. And quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is extremely happy about it.
Tua Tagovailoa and Austin Jackson came to Miami together, following a similar path as they were both first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. This season has been a strong one for both players, and Tagovailoa is “very proud” of how far Jackson has come as a player since they both arrived together.
“I just smile because of where he’s come from early when we got here together,” Tagovailoa said according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. “There’s a lot of things that have been said about him in front of team meetings, in the media and things like that. So, I’m just happy. I don’t want to get choked up about it. What he’s done is tremendous. What he’s done is tremendous. I’m very proud of him. Very happy.”
Jackson earned his extension in no small part due to the way that he has been able to protect Tagovailoa this season. And now, it looks like the team is going to trust him to continue protecting Tagovailoa for years to come.
