In October, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce became the target of a burglary at his home, and now it appears the FBI has issued him a warning following its investigation.
According to NBC News, the FBI cautioned players about a series of burglaries believed to be the work of South American organized theft groups.
The report details that these groups often conduct surveillance, evaluate security measures, and specifically target professional athletes with high-value belongings and cash.
As part of their advice, players – including Kelce – have been urged to avoid showcasing valuables on social media.
“The bureau recently issued the best-practices memo as part of a long-standing practice of communicating with private businesses about crime trends, a U.S. official briefed on the matter said,” NBC News reported last week.
“The memo, a ‘liaison information report,’ urges the leagues to advise athletes to limit imagery of valuables, such as cash, jewels and electronics, on their public accounts, the official said.”
For Kelce, however, that advice might be challenging to follow.
He is currently dating Taylor Swift, one of the most recognizable figures in the world, known for her affinity for luxury.
Since their relationship began, Kelce has been spotted wearing more designer clothing and jewelry than ever before. Given the frequent public appearances and photographs of the couple, keeping a low profile isn’t exactly feasible.
Even so, Kelce has likely taken steps to enhance his security following the burglary incident.
Kelce and the Chiefs are now set to begin their run through the NFL playoffs after earning the top seed in the AFC as well as the first-round bye.
While Kelce is in the midst of the worst season in his entire career statistically, the Chiefs are still in a great position to win an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl, which has never been done in the history of the NFL.
Additionally, Kelce was still given a spot in this year’s Pro Bowl despite his struggles thanks in large part to the fan voting, where he led all players in votes received.
