Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has still not officially revealed whether he plans to retire from the NFL. However, he may have accidentally confirmed his decision during his podcast this week.
On Friday afternoon, the Chiefs announced that Eric Bieniemy will be returning to Kansas City as the team’s offensive coordinator, a role he previously held from 2018 to 2022.
Bieniemy replaces Matt Nagy, who departs after running the offense over the last three seasons.
While Bieniemy’s return had not yet been made official earlier in the week, numerous reports suggested it was only a matter of time. That speculation prompted Kelce to address the move during the latest episode of his podcast.
During the discussion, Kelce made several noteworthy remarks about Bieniemy’s return that appeared to indicate he expects to be around alongside the coach this coming season.
“I think it’s great,” he said on Wednesday during the New Heights podcast he co-hosts with Jason Kelce, his brother, via ESPN. “I can’t wait to see him back in the building. He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player.
“I just love the guy, and it’s going to be awesome to see him back in the building and seeing him wear the Chiefs’ logo,” Kelce continued.
While this obviously isn’t an official announcement from Kelce, it does seem to imply that Kelce is preparing to return to Kansas City and play under Bieniemy this season.
Needless to say, this sparked a lot of reactions on social media.
“So does that mean we get killa trav for one more season,” one fan wrote in a post on X.
“Yeah he’s not retiring…” someone else added.
“At this point he should just come out and say he’s playing for 1 more year and then definitely retiring. Make it a farewell tour. Don’t let your last pass caught be from a 3rd stringer lol,” another fan wrote.
“You gotta believe Travis is back,” someone else wrote.
“I think that he’s made up his mind,” another fan said in a post.
“Means he’ll be in the building? But why if he retiring? Ohhhh buddy!!!” someone else added.
We’ll have to see whether or not an official decision follows.
