Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a decision to make as he must choose whether to retire from the league or return for another season. He has still not announced his decision, but there have certainly been hints about his intentions.
Earlier this month, the Chiefs announced that Eric Bieniemy would be returning as the team’s offensive coordinator, a role he previously held from 2018 to 2022.
Kelce offered a rather telling reaction to this news as he indicated that he “can’t wait” to see him back in a Chiefs logo and back in the team facilities.
“I think it’s great,” he said this month during an episode of the New Heights podcast he co-hosts with Jason Kelce, his brother, via ESPN. “I can’t wait to see him back in the building. He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player.
“I just love the guy, and it’s going to be awesome to see him back in the building and seeing him wear the Chiefs’ logo,” Kelce continued.
Obviously, this led to a lot of speculation that Kelce was planning to return next season, as it sounded like Kelce was excited to play under Bieniemy once again. This week, Bieniemy added more fuel to that speculation, as he said he was excited to reunite with Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“I’ve had a small minimal conversation with both and they all have been great, but more than anything, it’s just the excitement of reuniting,” Bieniemy said this week.
“It feels good just to sit down and have conversations with guys. To be honest, I haven’t talked any football or anything, it’s just the excitement of seeing each other.”
This comes after Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt made it clear that the team would like Kelce to return for yet another year.
Kelce has not announced a formal decision on his future, but it sure sounds like the Chiefs want and expect him to come back for another season.
