After he looked to sustain a serious injury, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce appears to have avoided disaster.

Late in the first half, Kelce suffered a dreaded non-contact injury.

Kelce caught a pass from Patrick Mahomes, turned up the field and immediately fell to the ground in obvious pain. He came immediately out of the game.

While Kelce jogging off of the field left some room for optimism, he later went into the locker room limping badly.

But Kelce jogged out of the locker room for the second half, still in full uniform. CBS’ Tracy Wolfson then gave the official update.

Kelce’s right foot was heavily wrapped up. But he was cleared to return to the game.

Seeing a player go down with a non-contact injury naturally triggers alarm bells with a lot of people. This is especially true on AstroTurf. And seeing how gingerly Kelce was walking off of the field, the speculation that he might have suffered a torn Achilles or another serious injury was certainly rampant.

Kelce missed Kansas City’s Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs offense struggled in a 21-20 loss.

Overall, though, Kelce has been a fairly durable player throughout his career. He has played in at least 15 games during every season since 2014.
