It’s no secret that this NFL season is not exactly going the way Tom Brady had hoped when he decided to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year. The team has now lost four of its last five games, including an embarrassing loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and Brady also has a lot going on in his personal life as he juggles a high-profile and expensive divorce.
Things are going so poorly that Tom Brady has even had to address retirement rumors on multiple occasions. And now, he’s facing criticism from a legendary NFL quarterback.
During an appearance on Paramount+’s “Inside the NFL,” New York Giants legendary Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms had some strong criticism for Brady, saying that he’s been a “distraction” for the team this season, referencing Brady’s strange preseason absence and his decision to skip team walkthroughs and attend the wedding of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
“The distractions caused by him: Going away for 10 days in training camp, what went on with the wedding is a distraction to the football team. It hurts,” Simms said, according to the New York Post.
Simms also suggested that this season has gone so poorly that if Brady could do it over again, he would remain retired instead of unretiring and rejoining the team during the offseason.
“If you could go back in time, Tom Brady would stay retired down in Tampa, no doubt about it,” Simms said. “He didn’t know he was going to lose his center and two guards, that’s one thing.”
It’s looking more and more like this will be Brady’s last season in the NFL.
