Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bündchen appear to be headed for divorce after the two hired divorce attorneys and Gisele recently stopped wearing her wedding ring. The couple’s marriage issues were thought to be due to Brady’s football career, it a new report paints a different picture of their relationship.
According to a report from People Magazine, the issues that are plaguing the couple’s marriage are not new.
“[The problems] are 10 years old,” a source told People. “This has been going on forever. This is nothing new to either of them.”
Though the problems aren’t new, they seem to have boiled over as the two are now in the process of finalizing their divorce.
As Brady and Gisele toward separation and the massive monetary ramifications that come with it, People Magazine’s source reveals that it’s not Brady leading the decision, but Gisele.
“She is the one steering the divorce,” the source told People. “She is playing offense and he is playing defense. He wants to protect himself, protect his interests, but he’s only starting to go the legal route in his defense from her. He doesn’t want this to be ugly, he doesn’t want to fight. If the divorce is happening — and it seems like it is — he wants it to go as smoothly as possible.”
