Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and his Brazilian supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen appear on the fast track to ending their 13-year marriage. The couple has reportedly been living separately for months after Bündchen delivered an ultimatum to Brady demanding this year be his last playing football.
The couple are reportedly on the hunt for divorce attorneys, with Bündchen already being spotted in Miami without her wedding ring.
If the two do get divorced, Brady could be on the hook for $200 million—nearly half of the assets amassed in his 22-year playing career—if he did not sign a prenuptial agreement with Bündchen before their vows, according to a divorce expert.
Karen Jeary, an associate solicitor at law firm Mayo Wynne Baxter, told Newsweek: “Given the extent of Tom’s estimated wealth, $400 million, and that under U.K. matrimonial law the starting point for division of matrimonial assets is 50/50, hopefully, Tom had the foresight to enter into a pre-nuptial agreement with Gisele to protect, in so far as possible, his pre-acquired wealth.”
Despite all signs pointing in that direction, there has been no official statement from either party announcing the end of the couple’s marriage.
Brady and the Buccaneers are next in action on Sunday when they host the Atlanta Falcons in NFC South play.
