He who laughs last laughs best. That was the case on Saturday night, as the Houston Texans social media team got the last word on its counterparts with the Cleveland Browns.
On Friday, the Browns got creative with some trash talk on Twitter/X directed at their Wild Card Round opponent, the Texans. On Saturday, the Texans responded.
When the Browns arrived in Houston on Friday, they shared a drawing of a sign that says Welcome to Texas. Only, “Ohio” was painted in Browns colors. The caption read “Just passing through…”
As creative and fun as that was, the Browns did leave themselves kind of vulnerable. What kind of comeback would be coming their way if they lost? On Saturday, we found out.
Not only did the Browns lose on Saturday, but they were completely routed. Cleveland quarterback Joe Flacco threw for over 300 yards, but also threw a pair of interceptions. Both of the interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
The Texans dominated the game, winning 45-14. They also kept receipts.
Houston tweeted out the same photo that the Browns used, only with some changes. For starters, it said “Thanks for visiting Texas. Over “Ohio” was red paint with “45-14” in white lettering. Also added was a “Lost Dog” sign that said “Last Seen: Losing to Texans” and “Call Texans Admin: 1-800-DAWG.” The caption, meanwhile, said “safe travels back to cLeveland.”
The clapback from Houston’s social media team earned a lot of praise.
Much like the game itself, this social media battle was a decisive victory for the Texans.
