The Cleveland Browns can now add another name to the long list of quarterbacks who have played for them over the last decade, Brock Osweiler.
Here’s Schefter’s longer breakdown of the trade on his Facebook:
And here’s a nuts and bolts recap of the trade.
Cleveland Browns receive: Brock Osweiler and his huge contract, 2018 Texans’ second-round pick, and 2017 Texans’ sixth-round pick.
Houston Texans receive: 2017 Browns’ fourth-round pick, and cap relief.
As Schefter points out, by freeing themselves of Osweiler, Houston frees up $10 million in salary cap space and has an additional $16 million in cash to spend, thus making it easier for them to go after a much better QB in Tony Romo.
This is extremely big news, considering this news tidbit was revealed less than two hours prior to the news of Osweiler getting traded to Cleveland:
By freeing themselves of Osweiler, Houston is a step ahead of Denver, who may not be able to acquire Romo until they trade Siemian. Houston can now go all in on Romo and try to land him quickly. By trading for Romo sooner rather than later, not only do the Texans stop the Broncos from trying to trade for Romo, but Houston can also move on to free agents it may want to sign, but can’t until it gets its quarterback situation figured out.
Naturally, this news made Twitter go crazy:
can we all agree that Brock Osweiler is the Brownsiest quarterback that ever Browned

Where’s that Cleveland Browns jersey guy that keeps adding QB names to it?
However, he may not even need to do that, considering Osweiler may never even take a snap for Cleveland.
Things can change pretty quickly in a year, huh?
