The Tennessee Titans sent a clear message to Year 2 quarterback Malik Willis when the franchise drafted former Kentucky Wildcats star quarterback Will Levis at the top of the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Though Mike Vrabel recently listed Willis ahead of Levis on the depth chart behind starter Ryan Tannehill, many Titans observers expect Levis will supplant the former Liberty University star, if not Tannehill too.
Willis, for his part, claims not to be thinking about the depth chart.
“I don’t really get into all that,” Willis told A to Z Sports Nashville. “I just try to go to work every day.”
Willis only recorded one touchdown in three games for the Titans. He says that was only growing pains.
“A lot of people took (it as) bad, but what can you do in three games? It’s sporadic during the season,” Willis said. “In your rookie season, you are trying to learn. Everybody says, ‘you’re a project this, project that,’ but I mean, understanding, coming in every day to get better at what I can do and (trying to) get more comfortable at what we are trying to do here.”
Willis isn’t backing down from competing for his spot in the organization.
“It’s a results-based business,” Willis said. “It doesn’t matter what I think; it doesn’t matter what you think; it just is. I am just focusing on what I can control.”
