It’s not very common that anybody predicts that they will be fired from their job, especially an NFL star that has been a crucial part of a team for nearly a decade. But that’s exactly what happened this week with longtime Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan.
During an interview with the team website this week, Taylor Lewan had a pretty blunt prediction about his future with the team, saying that he believes the Titans will cut him in the next couple of weeks.
“In the next couple of weeks, I will be cut by the Tennessee Titans — that will happen,” Lewan said according to the Tennessee Titans team website. “I truly believe that in my heart of hearts. Then I have to go into a situation that I’ve never been in in my entire life: I have to weigh the pros and cons of playing football, or not playing football.”
While it is rare for a player to make such an ominous prediction about their own job, Lewan is probably right. The Titans can save over $14.8 million against the salary cap by cutting him this offseason. If that happens, there’s still a chance that Lewan can return to the team on a reduced contract.
