In case you have not heard before, the Super Bowl tends to shut down many of a city’s normal activities and creates some problems for others in order to put on the championship game. The big money and overall hassle generated by the Super Bowl is often enough to lead to some unhappy citizens for a couple of weeks. The latest such example is a simple children’s playground.
Parents, of course, are sounding off about their tempory hassles due to the Super Bowl, which is not the first time we have heard such complaints.
“It is something we did not want. The Super Bowl is not in our city. No benefit to us where we are,” said Julia Bergman in a story by ABC 7 in the bay area.
“A public park should be accessible for the public to use unless there is something wrong with it,” said Chanda Williams, a parent.
This playground complaint follows a legal battle between a youth soccer league started with the NFL over the use and possible damage to its fields. The NFL, for their part, has said they will help ensure the soccer fields will be restored.
Here’s the thing. The Super Bowl only comes around so many times. It comes with a handful of temporary detours and inconveniences. Yes, it sucks you may not be able to use a playground for a few weeks. The NFL doesn’t care. Your city doesn’t really care. Unless you are going to pony up the millions (and millions) to outbid the NFL to keep the Super Bowl out of your neighborhood, this is just a hassle you will have to live with.
These stories can probably be told every year, but we tend not to hear so much about them when the big game is in Miami or New Orleans or Dallas because these cities are used to hosting these big events. So yes, we are sorry your kids may not be able to enjoy what they usually do, but we also know your kids will find a way to move on and overcome this brief disturbance.
