Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday the team hasn’t decided if Dak Prescott will play Sunday.
Appearing on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan, Jones said that the Cowboys quarterback is making progress, but the team has made no “final decision” if he’ll play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“As we make those final decisions, we’ll certainly make that known,” Jones said (via the Dallas Morning News). “But right now, we haven’t made any final decision.”
Prescott injured his thumb in the Cowboys’ season opener. While he’s been recovering from surgery, backup Cooper Rush has stepped in and played extremely well, leading Dallas to a 4-1 record.
Although Prescott returned to practice Thursday as a limited participant, team owner Jerry Jones said earlier this week Prescott will have to show he can grip the ball and throw with velocity before he returns.
Rush ran the Cowboys first team in practice both Thursday and Friday.
When asked if Prescott could return at least by Week 8, Stephen Jones seemed optimistic.
“By the Bears game? I would feel pretty strongly that he’ll definitely play by the Bears game. But we’ll see,” he said.
Despite how well Rush is playing at QB, Jerry Jones has said it is Prescott’s job when he returns.
