The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot to sort out if they want to get back to the top of the mountain and win a Super Bowl, or even win a playoff game for the first time in what is approaching a decade.
One thing the Steelers have to sort out is their quarterback room. The franchise will have to decide whether it wants to commit to Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, who both showed flashes and glaring shortcomings after splitting time as the starter throughout last season or if it wants to find a quarterback in free agency or the trade market.
However, that isn’t the only position group in the offseason that needs work. The Steelers’ wide receiver corps was heavily criticized throughout the season for its lack of depth.
George Pickens, presumably the most talented Steelers receiver, had problems throughout the season with remaining focused and hurting the team with costly penalties.
In an offseason media session, Steelers general manager Omar Khan revealed that he had a conversation with the young star.
“Omar Khan on George Pickens’ future as he enters the last year of his rookie deal: ‘Had a really solid exit meeting with GP, and I can tell you that he has a desire to be great. He has a desire to be great here. We have a desire for him to be great and to be great here,'” reported Brookie Pryor on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to Khan’s words on social media.
“If he acts up and quits on his team again this year, they need to clean out the entire circus tent, then, starting with Kahn, Tomlin, Smith, etc,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Clown franchise.. yeah bring back Russ, Pickens, & Najee,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Pickens can get his act together and go down as one of the all-time great Steelers receivers.
