The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a rough go of things the last few weeks, allowing the Baltimore Ravens to catch them in the AFC North standings. The two teams entered Sunday’s game in Baltimore tied, with sole possession of first place in the division on the line.
The Steelers, led by four-time MVP winner Aaron Rodgers, had an impressive showing. Rodgers aired the ball out more than he has in other games in his Pittsburgh tenure. The focal point of the offensive game plan was clearly the connection between Rodgers and star wide receiver DK Metcalf, whom the Steelers acquired in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks over the offseason.
Metcalf finished the game, a win, with seven catches for 148 yards. Now, the Steelers have to focus on keeping control of their division, with their next matchup coming against the red-hot Miami Dolphins.
Unfortunately, Rodgers and the Steelers have received some devastating news concerning his top target, and he may have to do without him in the game against Miami.
“Steelers standout WR DK Metcalf stayed overnight in Baltimore hotel after going to a local hospital following the game, team spokesman (Burt Lauten) confirmed. Metcalf was experiencing stomach pains on the flight and out of an abundance of caution, team medical personnel sent him to a nearby hospital. He’s flying back to Pittsburgh today,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported.
Rapoport then followed up with more details on the injury.
“DK Metcalf took a hard shot during the game and the goal was to rule out any significant internal injuries. It’s too early to tell how Metcalf’s status for the #Steelers MNF game vs. the #Dolphins will be affected. But the extra day helps.”
If Metcalf can’t go against the Dolphins, Rodgers may have to turn back the clock to his MVP form for the Steelers to keep things rolling.
