The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to get things sorted out after an embarrassing performance against the Cincinnati Bengals. Although Pittsburgh is 4-2, which is good for first place in the AFC North, the Bengals gashed the Steelers’ defense both on the ground and in the air, despite entering the contest having lost four games in a row after losing star quarterback Joe Burrow to a turf toe injury.
Mike Tomlin, the Steelers’ head coach, talked in his Tuesday press conference about the secondary not meeting his expectations to this point in the season.
“Mike Tomlin says the Steelers’ secondary ‘certainly hasn’t met my vision’ yet to this point, but he’s not panicking right now,” team insider Nick Farabaugh reported.
As much as Pittsburgh knows it has to improve its defense, the team is also trying to maximize its potential on offense, which requires some tough decision-making. As such, the Steelers have made the decision to part ways with a quarterback, losing his services for the rest of the season.
“We have terminated QB Logan Woodside from the Practice Squad,” the franchise revealed from its official Twitter account.
Fans reacted to the move on social media.
“So I’m guessing that means Howard is 100%?” one fan wondered about rookie quarterback Will Howard, who has been dealing with an injury through the first part of the season.
“Sorry to hear that! Best of luck to him in his future endeavors,” someone else added.
“Announce Mike Tomlin and Teryl Austin, too,” another fan added.
With the Steelers starting the oldest quarterback in the league, cutting a player behind him could rear its head in the future.
