This year marks the 15th anniversary of the tragic death of Washington Redskins legend Sean Taylor. To mark the occasion and celebrate his legacy, the Washington Commanders franchise planned a statue in his honor that was officially unveiled to the public on Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately, the “statue” was not at all what fans expected. In fact, it was not a statue at all. When the team pulled the curtain away to reveal what was supposed to be a statue of Sean Taylor, all that stood was his old Washington Redskins uniform – shoes, socks, pants, jersey and helmet – on top of a black wire mannequin in a glass case.
It was certainly not exactly what fans were expecting when the team revealed plans for a statue, and the team got absolutely blasted for it on Twitter.
“This is the Sean Taylor statue that was just unveiled on the 15th anniversary of his tragic death. Another embarrassing moment for the Washington franchise. Unreal,” NFL insider Ari Meirov wrote on Twitter.
And he certainly wasn’t the only one criticizing the program.

It’s safe to say that fans expected a bit more from the team’s attempt to honor a fallen franchise legend.
