Sunday’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints was a heated affair throughout with several players losing their composure throughout the game.
Quarterback Tom Brady showed his frustrations on the sidelines on Sunday, throwing a tantrum due to Tampa Bay’s poor performance on offense for the majority of the game.
Shortly after this, a full-on brawl ensued between Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore after Lattimore got into a shoving match with Brady.
This kind of intensity from both teams clearly got the attention of former Saints coach Sean Payton, and it may have reinvigorated Payton’s passion for coaching.
He discussed the game between the two teams on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Monday, saying that the game was the first time that he missed coaching.
“Yesterday was the first day since I’ve retired that I had FOMO. I was missing out,” Payton told Cowherd. “It bothered me I wasn’t a part of that. Yesterday was the day that I was jealous of everyone else there.”
Payton notably stepped down as head coach of the Saints back in January, instead opting to join Fox for their NFL pregame coverage this year.
Considering the previous rumors of Payton potentially returning to coaching after a season away from the sport which connected him to the Dallas Cowboys, this is certainly a quote that has caught the attention of the NFL world.

It certainly seems like the interest would be there for Payton should he want to return to the NFL given his impressive track record over the years.
On top of his Super Bowl Championship in 2009 with New Orleans, he finished each of the last five seasons with the Saints with a winning record.
He could certainly provide a ton of value to whatever franchise he may potentially go to, and these comments have added to the speculation that he may not be done with the NFL when it is all said and done.
