It’s no secret to anyone who has been paying attention to the NFL coaching world following the conclusion of the 2022 season that former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is one of the most sought-after potential head coaching candidates on the market right now. And even though Payton seems to believe that he won’t return to coaching next season, that’s not stopping NFL teams from trying as one more team has expressed interest in interviewing Payton.
According to a report from Texans reporter Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the Houston Texans have requested permission to interview Sean Payton.
“#Texans have now requested permission to interview former Saints coach Sean Payton, per league source, in addition to Mike Kafka, DeMeco Ryans, Shane Steichen, Jonathan Gannon, Ben Johnson, Ejiro Evero,” Wilson said in a tweet.
The Texans are just the latest team to express interest in Payton. The Denver Broncos are also expected to interview Payton for their open head coaching position and the Arizona Cardinals have received permission from the Saints to talk with Payton about their head coach vacancy.
Time will tell whether Payton actually returns to the sidelines next season, but it’s clear that he has plenty of interest from a number of NFL teams.
