The New York Giants are currently in a contract stalemate with franchise running back Saquon Barkley.
The Giants made what appeared to be a final offer to Barkley before they placed the franchise tag on the former Penn State product. Barkley declined that offer. When the Giants came back to Barkley with a new offer during the offseason program, he declined that one too.
Roc Nation Sports exclusively represented Barkley when both those offers came to the table.
However, Barkley recently added Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to his agency stable. While some observers thought this could lead to a new round of negotiations with the Giants, that’s not so, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
“Per a league source, the Giants aren’t inclined to re-shuffle the deck or start over simply because Barkley has added another agency to his negotiating team. Talks have occurred, and those talks provide the framework for wherever it goes from here,” Florio wrote.
He added if contract talks don’t “go somewhere quickly,” the Giants and Barkley “won’t be able to do a multi-year deal, by rule.” That window closes at 4 p.m. ET on Monday, and both sides would have to wait until the end of the regular season to ink any new deal.
