The New Orleans Saints took down the Los Angeles Chargers 30-27 in overtime on Monday night, in a game that featured a little bit of everything. That includes a missed field goal doink from Chargers kicker Michael Badgley to send the game to overtime.
The Chargers dominated in the first half, even leading 20-3 at one point.
But the Saints came back, with Drew Brees and Jared Cook connecting for a 41-yard touchdown to tie the game (after the extra point) 20-20 in the fourth quarter.
Still, it appeared that the Chargers may be in good shape when they took a 27-20 lead after Justin Herbert found a ridiculously wide open Mike Williams for a 64-yard touchdown with under four minutes remaining in regulation.
Well, on the Saints’ ensuing drive, Alvin Kamara made an absurd catch for a 28-yard gain to the Chargers’ 15-yard line with 1:46 remaining.
And on 3rd-and-4 at the nine-yard line, Taysom Hill — Sean Payton’s favorite toy — had a nine-yard rushing touchdown.
The Chargers then got into field goal range thanks to this amazing catch by Mike Williams.
But then the Badgley doink happened. And in overtime, the Saints got a Wil Lutz field goal to take a 30-27 lead. At this point, if you bet the line from Betonline, you would be sweating out the cover and the win! The Chargers tried to get into scoring range themselves, but Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore made a terrific tackle to prevent Williams from getting a first down on 4th-and-7.

A crazy game, and a highly impressive performance by Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert, who looks like the real deal.
But the Saints (3-2) ultimately came out on top, and are now in a three-way tie with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers for first place in the NFC South.
