It was not long ago that former Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman was the team’s leading rusher during its Super Bowl season in 2015. But now, it appears the 31-year-old former NFL star has some serious and tragic health concerns that have landed him in hospice care.

On Tuesday, former Broncos offensive tackle Orlando Franklin, a former teammate of Ronnie Hillman, posted a Tweet asking for prayers for the former running back, indicating that he was “not doing well.”

“#BroncosCountry please pray for Ronnie Hillman he’s in hospice and not doing well,” Franklin said on Twitter.

While Franklin did not share specifics of Hillman’s health struggle, it is clearly quite serious given that hospice care is reserved for those needing care and comfort as they approach the end of their life. And this update came as quite a shock to the NFL world, who took to Twitter to express their concern, prayers, and sympathy.

“Oh no, I know a lot of people in San Diego are thinking of Ronnie Hillman today,” Sportswriter Marty Caswell said.

“Oh my god. Thinking about Ronnie and his family. What a good guy,” said Kevin Clark of The Ringer.

“Man, this is terrible news,” said fantasy football writer JJ Zachariason.

It’s certainly a tragic situation, and the sports world will have Hillman and his family in their prayers.
