Robert Griffin III sat out the 2021-22 NFL season as he took on a role with ESPN’s college football coverage.
He is only 32 years of age and seemingly could provide an NFL team with some good veteran leadership in a backup role.
Griffin has talked about an NFL return in the past, saying that he has received some interest around the league after running a 4.48 second 40-yard dash.
He discussed a possible return to the NFL in an interview with KWTX in Texas on Sunday and echoed those sentiments, saying that he is ready to return to the NFL.
“I am ready to go right now. I train every day. I throw and work out. I know what it takes to get my body ready and I am doing those things. Yes, it is a little bit tougher when you are flying around everywhere doing stuff for TV, but when you really want something, you make it work. So, if I get that call this year, next year, or five years from now I will be ready to play.”
Griffin previously listed the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Atlanta Falcons as some top destinations for him next season.
In terms of a fit, those teams would fit Griffin’s skill set perfectly to mentor young quarterbacks with mobility such as Justin Fields and Desmond Ridder. Griffin was arguably one of the most prolific rushers in the history of the NFL as a quarterback in his breakout rookie season.
Many around the NFL world are potentially excited to see him back in the NFL next season.

Injuries certainly impacted Griffin’s career, but he has proven during his short time as a backup that he can provide value to an NFL team in a limited role.
It remains to be seen which team would be willing to take a chance on Griffin, but given his track record, it shouldn’t take long for him to find another home in the NFL if he is truly committed to being an NFL quarterback again.
