When the Las Vegas Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo, it raised some eyebrows. Many thought that the Raiders would go after Aaron Rodgers or maybe get a quarterback out of the draft.
But instead, they signed Jimmy G isn’t as flashy or a big name as Rodgers, however, he has taken his team to two NFC Championships games and a Super Bowl more recently than Rodgers.
Yet, he still receives some criticism even from his new Raiders teammates like Davante Adams who reportedly said he “didn’t see eye to eye” with the Raiders front office at the moment.
Adams left Green Bay to join the Raiders to play with friend Derek Carr, so that may be why it seems he may be slow to warm up to his new starting QB.
Former Bucs and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski came to Jimmy G’s defense when it was revealed what the All-Pro wide receiver had said.
“If he’s really mad that Jimmy G is there, I’m sure he’s going to go in, and he’s going to be a great quarterback,” Gronkowski said about Adams. “He already knows the system and how [head coach] Josh McDaniels works. He’s already worked under McDaniels in New England and did a great job when he started the few games that he did. So I don’t really see why he should have a problem with the quarterback position. It must be something with the front office. We’ll see how it plays out.”
Adams later came back to show his new starting QB some love.
“I’m ecstatic that Jimmy’s here,” Adams said recently on an episode of “I AM ATHLETE.” “Jimmy is a great guy. I’ve been around him a lot now, I’ve spent a lot of time at the facility when we’re doing these workouts. And I like the guy that he is, and obviously, we all working to get healthy to be in a great spot to where we can go out there and have a good year. And I’m very optimistic about it.”
So it seems all is well in Raiderville, at least for now.
