Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Cooper Kupp is dealing with a significant hamstring injury. But Rams head coach Sean McVay hinted at something far worse during a press conference on Wednesday.
Kupp reportedly suffered a setback during his recovery from this hamstring injury which made things far worse. And it will unfortunately affect at least the beginning of his 2023 season.
The Rams revealed on Wednesday that Kupp will not take the field for the team’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
As if that isn’t bad enough, McVay further expanded on Kupp’s injury after making this announcement. He hinted at Kupp potentially having nerve damage that could make his recovery from this injury even more concerning.
“I just know that we’re trying to open up every avenue in regards to figuring out what’s going on, why is he feeling some of the sensations and things like that in his hamstring,” McVay said via Pro Football Talk. “Is it soft tissue? Is there something nerve-wise? I think we’re really trying to be able to figure that out.”
Again, at this point, this is entirely speculation. But the fact that nerve damage is even being thought of regarding his injury if obviously extremely concerning.
Kupp has proven to be one of the best wide receivers in all of football when healthy, recording 145 receptions for 1947 receiving yards in 2021, the year the Rams won the Super Bowl.
But injuries have plagued him in recent years, and it now seems like this hamstring injury could put his 2023 season in jeopardy, especially if there is any nerve damage involved.
