When the Los Angeles Rams take the field for their Week 9 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, they’ll do so without their starting quarterback.
According to Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic, Matthew Stafford is officially inactive for Sunday’s game as he continues to recover from a sprained UCL in his right thumb. As a result, backup Brett Rypien will get the start at quarterback for the Rams on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Stafford suffered the injury to his right thumb in Los Angeles’ Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. While the former Pro Bowl signal-caller was officially listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s game, all indications appeared to be that he would be unable to play vs. Green Bay due to his injury.
In eight games this season, Stafford has completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. In three seasons with the Denver Broncos, the 27-year-old Rypien appeared in eight games (three starts), completing 61.5 percent of his passes for 778 yards, four touchdowns and eight interceptions before signing with Los Angeles this past offseason
Laying claim to a 3-5 record, the Rams enter Sunday’s game against the 2-5 Packers in third place in the NFC West.
Shortly after Stafford’s injury status was announced on Sunday, many took to social media to weigh in.
