When the Los Angeles Chargers went into victory formation late in their 24-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday, many fans probably changed the channel.
That’s a shame, because those fans missed a bizarre play by Raiders cornerback Marcus Peters.
With 1:12 remaining and the Chargers lined up to kneel with the ball and cap the victory, Peters walked up to the line of scrimmage, timed the snap perfectly, and leaped over the line in the direction of quarterback Justin Herbert.
Watching the play, you can hear Peters give a high-pitched cry like a martial arts fighter from a bad movie.
Herbert, who for some reason was lined up in the shotgun formation instead of under center, knelt with the ball, and looked at Peters. (One can only imagine what went through his mind.)
Hey, maybe Peters was just channeling his inner Brenden Schooler on the play. Schooler, the New England Patriots special team star, took a running start and blocked a field goal during the team’s Week 2 game on Sunday Night Football.
Peters’ insane effort on the play amused fans. At least he fared better on social media than Week 3, when he dropped a seemingly easy pick-six opportunity against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
