Charlie Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk takes the stage during the memorial service honoring Charlie Kirk at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 21, 2025. Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA was assassinated on Sept. 10, 2025.

The Super Bowl LX halftime show, headlined by international superstar Bad Bunny from Puerto Rico, ended up being a national story, due to Bad Bunny’s music being in his native Spanish, a language the majority of Americans don’t speak as their first language.

United States President Donald Trump even made it clear that he was not a fan of the NFL’s selections for musical performers, which also included Green Day.

I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible,” Trump said.

Still, the league held firm in its decision.

“Bad Bunny represents the global energy and cultural vibrancy that define today’s music scene. As one of the most influential and streamed artists in the world, his unique ability to bridge genres, languages, and audiences makes him an exciting and natural choice to take the Super Bowl halftime stage,” said Jon Baker, the SVP of Global Event Production for the NFL.

“We know his dynamic performances, creative vision, and deep connection with fans will deliver the kind of unforgettable experience we’ve come to expect from this iconic cultural moment.”

In light of the league’s decision to stick with Bad Bunny, Turning Point USA, led by CEO Erika Kirk, elected to hold its own halftime show, headlined by Kid Rock. Unfortunately for Kirk and Turning Point USA, their halftime show wasn’t much of a success as far as viewership goes, with it failing to attract as many viewers as the Puppy Bowl, an annual family-friendly treat where puppies hoping to be adopted play with balls on a makeshift “football field.”

People reacted to the news on social media.

“Dan the Terrier’s performance elevated the culture to heights Kid Rock could never,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I mean as it should. The puppy bowl is way more interesting and entertaining than anything TPusa could ever do,” someone else added.

“The puppy bowl is must see tv in our house, the other nonsense, not so much,” one person added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Kirk tries to build on this and attain more viewership at next year’s Super Bowl or if they call it here.
