The Pittsburgh Steelers and four-time MVP winner Aaron Rodgers, who is in his first season with the franchise, have been extremely impressive this season. After a dominant win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the Steelers improved to 4-1 on the season and increased thier lead in the division in a day where the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens also lost.
The Steelers are now faced with a quick turnaround, as they’re set to play the Bengals on Thursday. As such, head coach Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference on Monday and had some interesting things to share.
He even took a not-so-subtle shot at the Browns’ brass.
“Andrew Berry must be a lot smarter than me or us because it doesn’t make sense to me to trade a QB you think enough of to make your opening-day starter to a division opponent that’s hurting in that area. But that’s just my personal feeling,” Tomlin said.
PennLive.com’s Nick Farabaugh added some context to Tomlin’s statement.
“This quote makes all the sense in the world when you know that Tomlin doesn’t believe in a ‘next year’ or ‘tanking’ mentality. For him, it truly is about how do you win each week, the present, and the now. The future can wait. That’s the scope he comes from here 100%.”
Farabaugh also reported on a rather unfortunate revelation for one of the Steelers’ captains that Tomlin had, which all but certainly indicated that the team will be without one of its leaders for an extended period of time.
“Mike Tomlin says the team ‘certainly hurts’ for Miles Killebrew after his injury, but there is an expectation that others will be able to fill in,” Farabaugh reported.
It’ll be interesting to see how Pittsburgh responds to the loss.
