Former quarterback Peyton Manning earned a Hall of Fame reputation as being one of the more cerebral players in the sport’s history. When he speaks, the masses listen.
Manning, speaking as part of his NFL commentary duties with ESPN, recently reviewed the film of former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young.
When Manning looks at Young, he sees shades of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
“[Joe] Burrow is the guy that comes to mind,” Manning said on an episode of On the Clock.
“I’m not saying Bryce is gonna have that same success as Joe right away,” Manning said. “But I think that instincts that Joe has, that Bryce has the ability to beat the coverage, keeps a lot of plays alive. I love that.”
Manning also said Young and Burrow had a “sixth sense” for sensing a collapsing pocket and escaping from the pressure.
Young and Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud are expected to be the top two signal-callers selected in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Young played high school ball in California. He signed with the Alabama Crimson Tide as the No. 2 overall recruit of the 2020 class. He, like Joe Burrow, is also a former Heisman Trophy winner.
