The Chicago Bears are looking for the franchise’s next head coach after relieving Matt Eberflus of his duties. Eberflus’ firing was the first time the organization had fired a head coach midseason, but it was becoming increasingly evident that Eberflus wasn’t the right one to develop first-round draft pick Caleb Williams.
The Bears are looking for a coach who can develop the rookie quarterback, and there’s one name in consideration that has already won a Super Bowl with a second-year player under center, according to one report.
“The (Bears) are expected to have former (Seahawks)HC Pete Carroll on their list for (prospective) candidates,” reported one NFL-centric account on Thursday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Not crazy about this idea. The Seahawks thing didn’t quite workout the first time,” said one fan on Twitter.
“I like Pete. He is the epitome of a players coach. He’s a 4-3 defense guy so the personnel on that side doesn’t need an overhaul. He’s willing to let the best players play salary be damned. This was demonstrated when he let Russ Wilson win the job over their high paid free agent,” added someone else.
“Would be an amazing choice, as a Seahawks fan that would be terrifying with all the bears defensive talent,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see what direction the Bears decide to go in.
