Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes keeps finding new ways to make remarkable plays. From underhand passes to left-handed throws, Mahomes has produced a lot of outside-the-usual highlights, and he did that again Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. The Chiefs had a first-and-goal situation trailing 14-6 with 3:52 left in the second quarter, and Mahomes (seen above warming up ahead of this game) first stepped to the right under center, then came back left in motion, took the snap mid-motion, drew the defense to the left, rolled back right and threw a touchdown pass to a wide-open Demarcus Robinson:
Snapping the ball to a player in motion obviously comes with some risk, and could go very wrong if the timing’s not perfect. But it sure was in this case. And that was a nifty bit of play disguise, as it made it look like Mahomes was going to run to the left side; that drew the defense way out of position, and he had time to throw and an open target when he doubled back right. Mahomes continues to impress, and he continues to show why the Chiefs gave him a record-breaking 10-year contract extension this summer.
