Since his arrival in the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been one of the top quarterbacks in the league, earning an NFL MVP award and leading his team to multiple Super Bowls, including one championship. But even he can improve his game – particularly in the red zone.
During Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, the Chiefs were only able to score one touchdown on six red zone appearances. The Chiefs settled for four field goals and Mahomes threw a red zone interception.
“[E]specially in the red zone, we got to execute at a higher level,” Patrick Mahomes said in his postgame press conference, according to Pro Football Talk. “I got to execute at a higher level, and I got to take out like the one dumb play I make every game it seems like so if I can take that out, I think we’ll be alright.”
On his red zone interception, Mahomes admits that he threw it right to the opponent.
“I threw it directly into the dude’s stomach, so just got to make sure that I don’t do that, especially in the red zone because those are ones that kill you in big games,” Mahomes said. “So obviously you like to win, but we’ve got a lot to get better at offensively, especially starting with me.”
