Andy Dalton has found a new home. The veteran quarterback signed a two-year contract with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news. “Veteran free-agent QB Andy Dalton is expected to reach agreement on two-year, $10 million deal that includes $8 million guaranteed with the Carolina Panthers,” Schefter tweeted. “Contract max value is $17 million.”
The Panthers, who now own the No. 1 pick, likely signed Dalton for insurance purposes. Carolina acquired the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft in a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears. They are probably going to select a quarterback with that pick. Whether it’s Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud is yet to be seen. However, the Panthers will need somebody to help them along.
Dalton is about as good a choice for that job as you can get. He’s been in the league since 2011 after he won the Rose Bowl in 2010 with TCU. The Cincinnati Bengals drafted him and he stayed in Cincy for quite some time. Since departing, however, Dalton has played for the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints. So the Panthers will be the fourth team that he’s played for in his career.
In his career, Andy Dalton has thrown for 38,150 yards and 244 touchdowns. He’s made the Pro Bowl three times in his career: 2011, 2014, and 2016.
