Injuries are a very real concern in such a high-contact, violent sport as football and should generally be taken seriously given the risk involved. But when players blatantly fake injuries on the field, it makes it difficult to determine when a player is actually in need of medical attention and when he’s just going down in an attempt to slow down the opposing offense.

That was the case during Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles when a player went down with a clearly fake injury.

The Eagles had the ball and were trying to hurry up to the line of scrimmage and run another play, but as Green Bay looks to the sideline for a signal, linebacker Isaiah McDuffie appears to get a signal informing him to fake an injury. McDuffie was walking and moving fine and was showing no signs of an injury, but suddenly he reached for his leg and fell to the ground, clearly faking an injury.

The NFL world was not too kind to the Packers or McDuffie for this obvious act as plenty of people absolutely blasted them for it.

Fake injuries have happened for a long time, but it’s clear the NFL needs to find a way to penalize them.
