Sound bytes are dazzling everywhere at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. On Tuesday, several teams’ general managers took the podium and fielded questions. One of them was Green Bay Packers GM, Brian Gutekunst.
Gutekunst and the Packers have a fascinating offseason ahead of them. The team may go into 2023 with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They also might not, for a myriad of reasons. Many believe Rodgers will either retire or that he could potentially play with a new team. The New York Jets have notably been tossed around as a possible suitor, which makes time feel like a flat circle in Green Bay.
Should the Packers be without Rodgers, that means they’ll turn to first-rounder Jordan Love. Gutekunst seemed poised to field questions about him at the scouting combine. He didn’t mince words when he discussed the potential future Packers quarterback.
“I think he’s ready to play,” Gutekunst said of Love. “I think he’s ready to be an NFL starting quarterback.”
Gutekunst would continue to wax poetic. “He’s worked really hard, he’s shown a lot of progression. I know he’s really eager to have that and I think that’s his next step in his progression. To play.”
So, if the Packers do indeed move on from the future Hall of Famer Rodgers, there’s no doubt who will be under center in 2023.
