Early in the second quarter of Monday’s game between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, Browns running back Nick Chubb was carted off with a knee injury.
Unfortunately for Chubb and the Browns, it’s a season-ending injury.
Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that news shortly after Monday’s game concluded.
As a member of the Georgia Bulldogs in 2015, Chubb suffered an injury to the same knee. He dislocated his left knee, tore his LCL, MCL, and PCL, and suffered cartilage damage after being tackled against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Since being drafted by Cleveland in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Chubb has been a focal point of the Browns’ offense. He has rushed for at least 950 yards and scored at least eight touchdowns in each of his previous five NFL seasons and has been named to four Pro Bowls. His 48 career rushing touchdowns puts him seventh among active NFL players, and his 6,447 career rushing yards places him fifth among active running backs.
Chubb was also having a big game on Monday at the time of his injury, carrying the ball 10 times for 64 yards.
Cleveland was unable to overcome Chubb’s injury and lost 26-22 to the Steelers. The Browns were looking to improve to 2-0 to start the season for the first time since 1993.
