The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for a crucial postseason clash with the San Francisco 49ers, but there is growing concern that they could be without their standout quarterback, Sam Darnold.

Darnold is officially listed as questionable for Saturday night’s matchup against the 49ers, and he has maintained that he expects to be on the field.

Earlier this week, when asked about the likelihood that he would miss the game, Darnold said that the odds he would be unavailable for the game were “closer to zero.”

However, the latest update on Darnold’s condition was a lot more concerning than Darnold seemed to let on.

On Saturday morning, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Darnold has been battling the injury all week and, notably, has not thrown a football since suffering it on Thursday. Adding to the concern, backup quarterback Drew Lock has handled all first-team reps over the last two days.

“Seahawks QB Sam Darnold hasn’t thrown a football since he hurt his oblique Thursday,” Schefter wrote in a post on X. “The Seahawks believe, but don’t know, that he will be OK to start tonight’s game vs. the 49ers.”

“Backup QB Drew Lock took the reps the past two days and is ready if needed,” Schefter continued.

Needless to say, this is pretty horrible news for Darnold and the Seahawks, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“This would be a terrible way for a fantastic season to end,” someone wrote in a post on X.

“If I was a Seahawks fan I would throw up reading this,” someone else wrote.

“Drew Lock time,” another fan speculated.

“This seems not ideal,” someone else added.

“The Niners are the luckiest team in the NFL,” another fan wrote.

“This is such a strange situation. I’m sure he plays but how the [heck] does he get that injured in practice coming off a bye? To the point where he hasn’t even thrown a football? He’s about to play the biggest game of his career. Damn, Seahawks can’t go out like that,” someone else added.

Now, all eyes will be on whether Darnold is healthy enough to suit up Saturday night and, if he does, how effective he can be leading the Seahawks.
